The problem with deforestation is that people see it as a problem that doesn’t affect them in any way. But the problem there is that deforestation is affecting people all over the world. It might not be a noticeable at first glance but it plays a role in how the world runs. Deforestation is considered to be a minor problem for most people because it only happens in areas far from most major population. That might be true but deforestation can influence weather that can affect populated areas. As described by worldwildlife.org, “Forests play a critical role in mitigating climate change because they act as a carbon sink—soaking up carbon dioxide that would otherwise be free in the atmosphere and contribute to ongoing changes in climate patterns”[1]. This is critical to our survival as humans we need that clean oxygen to be able to breathe and live. Ignoring this problem will only increase. But many people have a fixed mind set that out needs are more important than animals, animals that claimed that land before us. As sated in an article by worldwildlife.org, “Deforestation is a particular concern in tropical rainforests because these forests are home to much of the world’s biodiversity”[2]. This point cant be overstated because with out the millions of animals nature would not function. Nature that keeps us alive by producing natural food, shelter, and keeps the world stable. Millions of acres have already been cut down. All over the world the same problem is consistent. The deforestation of forests has been increasing over different areas. The most recognizable of these places is the Amazon Rain Forest. According to WWF.org “For example, in the Amazon around 17% of the forest has been lost in the last 50 years, mostly due to forest conversion for cattle ranching”. This is concerning to many people because the amount of rain forest already cut down is astronomical. This is made possible by weak laws in different areas like Africa, Philippines, and Asia. Different areas have different levels of production. In an article by Matt McDermott he discusses the level of deforestation in different areas. He states, “Historically Honduras was pretty much entirely covered by trees, with half a percent of the land not forested. Today about half of that remains (52%), with just about 16% existing in frontier forest state”. This problem is not made by only one country, rather it’s a combination of many. Overall the problem of deforestation has been made possible by many people. Humans are connected to the forest where once those same trees that have been there for millions of years sheltered our ancestors. Forest the lungs of mother nature are now in need of our help. · [1] "Deforestation." WorldWildlife.org. World Wildlife Fund, n.d. Web. 07 May 2015. · [2] "Deforestation." WorldWildlife.org.
